- The Rojak Ladder
stopper may be expected to improve the performance of a ladder in terms
of safety by imparting complete stability under normal conditions of
use
- The stopper may
be expected to improve
considerably the limits of stability of a ladder well beyond that
required for normal use
- The stopper is regarded as being stable
at inclinations of 3/1 and above even with loose dry surfaces
- The stopper may be expected to provide
added security in that when used at the limit, loss of stability is
gradual (slip-stick) rather than catastrophic (Total). This enables the
user to make a careful descent without further slip occuring.
- The Stopper would be expected to be of
great interest to safety officers as a means of improving the stability
of ladders.
How and why does it work?
The ladder is kept in place by
friction at its point of contact, if this friction is overcome by the
load on the ladder then it slips with hardly any warning - then it's
too late (see above). In normal use of a ladder two very small areas
come into contact with the ground and all the weight of the ladder and
it's user is concentrated on these two points. This is why the rubber
feet of a ladder wear away very quickly. With the Stopper, the weight
of the ladder and its user is spread over a larger area.

|
Consequently, the heavier the user
the better the grip
